Every year, as summer slowly softens into autumn and the golden light of March settles across South Africa, the country pauses. March is Human Rights Month in our country, a time when the nation reflects on the long and difficult road to freedom, dignity, and equality. Most people take a day off on Human Rights Day, 21 March, a public holiday commemorating how far we have all travelled as a nation. Here...
Mothers Matter at Seaside Cottages
Mother’s Day is a warm celebration of all the women who nurture, guide, and shape our lives.
At Seaside Cottages, we know that mothers matter. So we join in this honouring of all mothers and their powerful bonds of love, care, and support in our families and communities.
We join everyone around the world to mark this special day on the second Sunday of May – 10 May 2026. Mother's Day may not be a public holiday, but it still carries a deep emotional significance. It’s a day when many people slow down, show appreciation, and make mothers feel truly special.
We invite you to celebrate at Seaside Cottages!
Mother's Day in Fish Hoek
In Fish Hoek, we keep up with simple, meaningful traditions for moms: a thoughtful card, a small gift, breakfast in bed, or a relaxed family lunch. Some families choose to spoil mom with a day out - perhaps a lovely brunch, a peaceful spa treatment, or even a special event - while others keep it close to home with a homemade meal and quality time together. All mothers really want is a big hug and maybe some flowers! Maybe a night at Seaside Cottages and a walk on Fish Hoek Beach will do?
The modern version of Mother’s Day began in 1908, thanks to Anna Jarvis in the United States, who wanted to honour her own mother’s dedication and compassion. Since then, it has grown into a global tradition with its roots in gratitude, love, and recognition of the quiet, powerful role mothers play in our lives. All mothers really want is connection and special family moments together!

May in Cape Town
Caught between summer and winter, May in Cape Town offers pleasant daytime temperatures, often reaching the low 20s°C, dropping to chilly levels at night. There may be a bit of rain and fog and many days are sunny and warm. It is also generally less windy than the summer months or the stormy wintertime, offering calm, clear days.
May weather in the Cape requires jerseys, sweaters, and a versatile, warm jacket for chilly mornings and evenings. Always carry a waterproof coat or umbrella for occasional storms. Some people go as far as packing a full rain suit for the onset of rainy times in Cape Town! But don’t let the rain stop you – this Autumn weather is perfect for visiting vineyards, enjoying indoor dining, and lower-crowd sightseeing. Take a hike, a beach walk or a stroll on a promenade somewhere.

Fish Hoek beach offers a long stretch of soft sands to stroll, a swim and an ice cream or coffee too!
